FSU Bowl Game

Tonight FSU played Notre Dame in the Champs Bowl game in Orlando. We won. But we really won, because we got to enjoy the company of our dear friends Kevin, James, Amber and Kaitlynn and Ashely. Sam and Kevin join us several time during the season- usually when FSU plays away. Sam had to work, but Kevin came to cheer the Noles on to victory. The DeTuccio's came over and it was so great to see them. Maggie is finally old enough to play with the girls. She was a little shy at first, but warmed up and jumped right in with them. Impressive Kaitlynn read Maggie her Curious George book so beautifully! We had such a nice time with all of them and hope to see them more in 2012.

Bath & Bed Time

Here are some shots of Maggie in the tub. Now that we actually have hair to shampoo!
And lots of bath toys! The last one is in her footsie pj's as I read to her before bed every night.

Sea World

Earlier this month we went to Sea World for the twins birthday. The day was filled with adventure and wild animals-- including those that were in our party. :) It is days like Sea World, that in 20 years, we will look back and say, remember that crazy day that we spent with Shamu.

We all survived including the beeping of our car key alarm to find our car at the end of the night.

But we had plenty of smiles to go around:

Season

This just came from my parents camera. The true meaning of Christmas. My dad was explaining to Maggie all the different parts of the manager. So beautiful.

She also danced during the homily, but we don't have photos of that.

Fun & Games: Signed "MORE"

We think we may have taught Maggie to sign "MORE". We have been practicing and today I think she finally got it. I don't have video, but I wanted to make sure I logged the date!

For those that don't know about baby sign language, here is a link: CLICK HERE.

Also, I found some great game ideas for her too:

Here are some games from BABY CENTER that we can start to play with Maggie:

Tea party
On a sunny day, take a child-sized plastic tea set outdoors and fill a large plastic bowl with water. Pretend you've "come to tea" and encourage your toddler to fill the teapot and pour the tea. This fun game will challenge his coordination skills and help him learn about the properties of water — for example, that it always flows down, not up.

Block patterns
This requires some concentration on your toddler's part, so it's best played when he's feeling refreshed. Use his building blocks to make simple patterns, such as three in a row or "two up, two down" to make a square. Encourage him to use other blocks to copy your pattern. Then let him try making his own pattern, which you have to copy. Sorting objects like this into shapes will help encourage your toddler's problem-solving skills.

Roll it to me
Balls are popular toys for toddlers. Bouncy balls are best kept outside, but soft, foam balls make great indoor toys. The best ball game to start playing with your toddler is an easy version of "catch." Both of you sit on the ground facing each other with your legs apart and toes touching. You can now roll the ball backward and forward to each other without it going out of bounds. Fun for building arm muscle strength and hand-eye coordination.

Young collector
Go for a walk together and take a bucket with you. Collect small objects that interest your toddler — stones, leaves, pine cones. Your toddler will want to carry the bucket, but don't be surprised if he also dumps its contents and starts again. Toddlers this age love to fill containers just so they can empty them again. Meanwhile, he's practicing his hand movements and developing dexterity.

Me and my Godson Quinn

Santa 2011

Well, we found him. Finally. It took three different trips and two malls but we found Santa. After two failed attempts at our Brandon mall where the line compared to the line for Space Mountain at Disney World, we finally went back to where we found Santa last year.... Wiregrass. I am not sure why I became so determined to find him. I really want to see her grow in photos with Santa through the years, or maybe I like the thrill of the chase? Whatever the crazy reason, we found him. Let me first tell you about the first two attempts:

Brandon Mall #1: Mike and I went in to shop around on Tuesday afternoon. He was working in the evening so we thought the lines would be slim since it was in the middle of the afternoon-- WRONG. They were a mile deep. We did more shopping and came back later. Still a mile long. Went home.

Brandon Mall #2: I had a plan. I had a strategy. I would get her up, make breafast, get her dressed and be in line 30 minutes before Santa was scheduled to be there to stake my spot. Well, all went as planned but as I was trying to leave the house at 9:30, I couldn't find her shoe... ANYWHERE. I looked for 20 minutes. Finally I called MIke and with in an instant he said, "I think it is in the laundry basket." And sure it was.
SO off we went. At 10 am- Santa start time, I still thought we would have an edge... WRONG. We even got the primo spot in front of Dick's Sporting Goods. Like Spot #1. It was the best spot in the entire mall. I am thinking things are falling into place, minus our missing shoe that was now found. We go in to the mall and the line was just as long as the day before. I wait 15 minutes and it does not move, I gave up. We left.

Wiregrass #3: She woke up from her nap. We had lunch. We went up to Wiregrass thinking that it would just be as bad since Shannon waited 1 hour and 20 minutes the day before. We stumbled up to the line and there were only two people. Not bad. But no Santa. He was on lunch break. Would not be back for 20 minutes. Could I keep her occupied for 20 more minutes. Thank God for Cheerios! We did! She was looking around at all the kids, a few books and then it was our turn. We made it very quick. I told Santa's elf and the photographer that this is not going to be a pretty picture. We are not going to try to get a smile or even for her to calm down. I told them I am going to put her on his lap. You click the camera five times and I picked her back up. It was done. She cried for five seconds and we paid our $21 and off to get yogurt we went.

Success Santa. See ya Next year.

What Maggie Knows

I am behind in my 14 month post, 3 days behind, so here are few things I need to write down before I forget when she mastered all this cool stuff.

* Yummy Tummy- During or After eating if you ask her "Yummy/Tummy" she rubs her belly.

* 5 Little Monkeys- She hits her head during the song.

* Body Parts: Eyes, Ears, Nose, Mouth, Feet, Hands(Manos in Spanish
- Laughs big laughs when I say stinky feet. phewie!
- This little piggy.
- Beeee-BO, from the Belly Button book. She points at hers.

* Ring around the Rosie- She really only likes to fall down.

* Love- She will put her head on you.

* Kiss- this one is a work in progress, only have seen it a few times.

* Can point Elmo out of all her books.

* Knows "How big is Maggie"- throws hands in air.

* Knows to go over to high chair for breakfast.

* Bye, Bye- Waves hands

* Feeding- If you give her a spoon that has stuff that sticks like mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, she can feed herself

* Brushes her teeth

* Walks- I will try to get more walking video uploaded.

* Climbs up on couches. Trying to get more confidence on getting off the couch.

* Can climb in the tub.

I know I am forgetting more. But this will have to do for now.

First trip to ER & Croup

We were having a normal Thursday. Mike came home from work and we quickly went to go out to eat at Sonny's. Maggie was waving and having fun with the waitress and customers. She was in great spirits when we went to pick out our Christmas Tree at Lowes. We were out past her bedtime so she went to bed with out a bath, no big deal though. She went to bed without hesitation.

We went ahead and put the tree in the holder and brought it inside. Hung out for a bit before we were about to head up to bed. Mike went up first and heard her coughing kind of loud. The fact that she was coughing was bizarre to me since she was so perfectly fine earlier in the night.

Mike went in her room and said over the monitor, "She is coughing pretty bad." So he brought her downstairs. We tried to give her some water in the kitchen and then minutes later, she PUKED! EVERYWHERE! Projectile! It was horrible! I freaked out. It was all over me. I start crying and yelling, "What do I do? What do I do?" I didn't know if I should move, how do I get her to the bath with out getting it all over the place. So I took her upstairs and stripped her down. Her breathing was so hard and labored and sounded horrible. I yell for Mike who was cleaning up the kitchen. I yell, call my mother. I call in tears and wake them up and she advise I call our pediatricians office. We call the on call doctor, who thankfully was our pediatrician. Dr. Deckle heard her in the background and said that we should take her to the ER to get her checked out.

At 11:30, we were out of the house in 2 minutes. We had to pick between St. Joe's or Brandon. Because of her breathing so bad, we decided closer was better. Off we went. We get to the hospital and park. Now why we didn't just drive up to the front, I have no idea. But we had never been to Brandon Hospital and it was dark so we just ran as fast as we could. We got her registered, and I have tears coming down my face as I explained the situation. They saw her in Triage within 3 minutes. Then then had us go back to a room. We waited for the Med student check her out and then the doctor came in and said she had croup. She also had to get x-rays to rule everything else out. This sounds a lot easier than it was. Trying to hold a baby still for an xray is so hard. They had to put her in a metal wrap to keep her bottom still and Mike had to hold her down as they put her in a neck brace. The entire 5 xrays probably took 6 minutes, but it felt like an hour. We went back to the room where she passed out from the ordeal. The Doc said everything else was clear and that we would have to give her a steroid medicine to help her lungs.

We went home at 2:30 and she slept till 7 am.

My parents came down on Friday night and brought dinner. They got to give Maggie hugs and I really think Maggie "knows" who they are and was happy to see them. She gave them both really big hugs. I know I was happy for the hugs and happy to see them. It gave me flash backs from when she was jaundice and Dad brought lasagna down for us. Food and parents mean so much! We are lucky to have them.

We have been in hibernation all weekend. She has been eating fine, sleeping ok for the most part. Friday, Saturday night I have been up for about two hours in our smaller bathroom for our make-shift sauna that has a vaporizer in there. She wakes up with several coughs in a row and I take her in there for about an hour. This usually calls for a diaper change as we sit in the bathroom with the night lite on. She takes everything out of the cabinets and also likes to walk in the very little space while I try to convince her to go back to bed. The sauna usually makes the coughs stop with in 10 minutes and she is fine.

Saturday morning I think I woke up with a sinus infection. Being sick is rough for anyone, being a mom that is trying to take care of her sick baby is a really rough job. The house is a mess, but we will try to get things in order this week. As long as we are healthy by next weekend.... we will be going to Sea World to celebrate her cousin Brady and Belle's 6th Birthday!

Clingy

We have been a bit clingy lately... and this is why below:

Painful partings
At 13 months, many toddlers have full-blown separation anxiety. Yours may become upset when you leave her, even with friends or family members she sees relatively often. The intensity of her attachment to you is hard to resist – and she'll probably never be as unquestioningly devoted to you again.

On the other hand, kids this age can be very, very clingy and you may find yourself wishing your child was a little less focused on you. There's nothing more guilt inducing than leaving your crying child with someone else when she wants only you. Five minutes after you leave, though, your little one's likely to have dried her tears and be perfectly happy.

Be as patient as you can during this tender time. Like all normal phases, it will pass. Separation anxiety typically peaks between 10 and 18 months and then gradually fades away.

At thanksgiving in Vero, I casually mentioned how I was looking for an organizer for Maggie's play area. Nana had one in storage! Pap pap Kutsch brought it down to Brandon this morning! And like magic, we are putting it to good use! Thanks so much!

Aspen 2011

We went to Aspen for our 5 year wedding anniversary trip. So much to write, but no time. Here are some fun adventure notes:

* Enjoyed a fire place in hotel room that caused all of our clothes to smell like hickory wood chips after we left.

* Almost lost one of my diamond earrings- literally fell in my hand while out on the slopes. Found the back too!

* Lost our Camera. Found our Camera.

* Left my gloves on a city bus. Found my gloves from the City bus.

* Watched the Noles Basketball team lose at Zane's Tavern. Still can't stand Leonard Hamiliton.

* Hit my head on ski lift.

* While trying to avoid other skiers, I got air by doing a 180 off the corner of the mountain.

* Mike actually spent the entire day on Snowmass Mountain.

* Hot tub in our room was great for our sore shins on the first day and sore ankles on the second day.

But had a great time while enjoying the Apres Ski, which means happy hour. I also did much better after I had my lesson.
