Today I met Snooty. He was born in captivity and his mom died when he was six months old. He gets hand fed each day romaine lettuce, potatoes and carrots. He is 64 years old and is the oldest manatee in captivity. Most manatees are rehabilitated and released. But because he was born in captivity he would never be able to survive in the wild because his defense mechanism aren't like a normal manatee. A part of me feels sad for Snooty because he doesn't get to roam and swim free out in the wild. The other part feels like Snooty is getting VIP treatment and has out lived any other manatee in the world.
